unnatural death of a 20-year-old Senegalese, Cheith Toure in Kumasi: Police Investigate Conflicting Reports”

Police Probe Unnatural Death of Senegalese Footballer in Kumasi

The Ashanti Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Kumasi has launched a full-scale investigation into the unnatural death of a 20-year-old Senegalese national, Cheith Touré, whose body was found with multiple abdominal injuries.

The incident was confirmed in a press statement issued by the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters on October 20, 2025. At the center of the investigation is an individual identified as Issah, who claimed to be the deceased’s brother.

Conflicting Accounts Raise Questions

Initial police inquiries have uncovered contradictory reports about the circumstances leading to Touré’s death. According to the police, Issah transported the young man to the Manhyia Government Hospital on October 16, 2025, claiming that Touré had been involved in a road accident.

However, hospital records reveal a stark contradiction. Medical personnel noted that Cheith Touré was already deceased upon arrival, with visible abdominal injuries. His body was later transferred to the Ebenezer Mortuary in Tafo, Kumasi, for further examination.

A Promising Football Career Cut Short

Background investigations have identified the deceased—whose name is also reported internationally as Cheikh Touré—as a young Senegalese footballer and aspiring goalkeeper.

On October 18, 2025, the Ministry of African Integration, Foreign Affairs, and Senegalese Abroad released a statement confirming that their consular services had initiated a parallel investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that Touré may have been a victim of an international fraud and extortion ring.

Alleged Abduction and Ransom Demands

According to emerging reports, Touré was allegedly lured to Ghana under the pretense of professional football trials. What appeared to be a life-changing opportunity tragically escalated into an abduction, during which his captors reportedly demanded a ransom from his family—a sum they were unable to raise.
