Ken Agyapong Praises Mahama Era: ‘I Have No Reason to Criticize His Government’

Ken Agyapong: “I Have No Reason to Criticize Mahama’s Government”
Businessman and former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, as well as New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Agyapong, has stated that he sees no justification for criticizing President John Dramani Mahama or his government, just ten months into their administration.
In recent weeks, speculation has circulated within political circles suggesting that the outspoken NPP figure is deliberately withholding criticism of the Mahama-led government. Some allege that Agyapong may be seeking payment for contracts awarded to him under the previous NPP administration, and is therefore treading carefully in order not to jeopardize his interests.
However, in an interview on Spear FM in Damongo, Ken Agyapong addressed the rumours directly, dismissing the claims and emphasizing that he simply has no grounds to attack the current administration.
“I’ve heard people say I’m not attacking Mahama because the government owes me and I want to be paid — that’s not true,” he said. “The man has been in office for just ten months. What exactly do you want me to criticize him for? We have to be fair.”
Using a metaphor to underline his point, he added, “Ten months — even if it was cassava you planted, it wouldn’t be ready for harvesting.”
Agyapong stressed that his focus is currently on his campaign to lead the NPP into the 2028 elections, and not on launching attacks against the sitting government.
“I won’t criticize Mahama. I’m focusing on my primaries,” he noted. “I’m not saying that we shouldn’t speak out when something goes wrong, but for now, my priority is winning the NPP flagbearership.”
