Kantamanto in Flames: Fire Guts Shops on Tazani Lane

Fire Destroys Multiple Shops at Kantamanto’s Tazani Lane
A major fire outbreak in the early hours of Tuesday, October 21, 2025, has destroyed several commercial shops along Tazani Lane, near Ecobank in Kantamanto, Accra.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the blaze was reported at approximately 1:31 a.m., prompting an immediate response. The first fire engine arrived at the scene within 11 minutes, at 1:42 a.m.
In total, seven fire engines and a turntable ladder were deployed from the Circle, Industrial Area, Accra Regional Headquarters, Madina, and Legon Fire Stations, with additional support from two appliances dispatched by the GNFS National Headquarters.
Firefighters battled the intense flames for nearly three hours before successfully bringing the fire under control at around 4:49 a.m. The affected area included multiple commercial structures, many of which have been severely damaged.
Top officials from the Ghana National Fire Service, including Acting Chief Fire Officer Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, the Director of Operations, and the Greater Accra Regional Commander, visited the scene to assess the damage and support ongoing operations.
So far, no civilian injuries have been reported. However, one firefighter suffered smoke inhalation and asphyxiation during the operation. The individual was promptly administered first aid on-site and later transported to the hospital by personnel from the National Ambulance Service for further treatment.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown, and investigations have been launched to determine what sparked the incident.
