Government Moves to Establish Special Courts to Tackle Audit Violations

Government to Establish Special Courts for Audit Infractions
The Government of Ghana has unveiled plans to set up special courts dedicated to fast-tracking cases arising from audit infractions flagged in the Auditor-General’s Report.
This move follows a high-level meeting held on Monday, October 20, 2025, involving President John Dramani Mahama, the Chief Justice, the Attorney-General, and the Auditor-General. The discussions centered on strengthening the enforcement of recommendations and findings outlined in the Auditor-General’s annual reports.
According to a statement from the Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the new special courts will focus on handling cases related to financial irregularities uncovered during public audits. Their mandate will include the enforcement of surcharges, disallowances, and the prosecution of related criminal offenses.
Mr. Ofosu emphasized that this initiative is part of a broader government strategy to deepen transparency, improve accountability, and curb the misuse of public resources. He added that the special courts will also ensure the swift recovery of funds owed to the state.
