Otto Addo rejects self-praise as Ghana close in on back-to-back World Cup spots.

As Ghana inches closer to securing qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has remained humble, rejecting any personal credit for the team’s progress. Speaking ahead of their crucial qualifier against Comoros, Addo emphasized that success is a result of collective effort, not individual brilliance.

“I’m not thinking about that,” Addo said when asked about the possibility of leading Ghana to consecutive World Cup appearances. “It’s never about me. People often say, if we lose it’s me, if we win it’s me — but it’s always about the team.”

The Black Stars are riding a wave of momentum following a recent victory in the qualifiers, and a win against Comoros would significantly boost their chances of booking a spot in the tournament, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Addo praised his players for their commitment and discipline, stating that the focus remains on executing their game plan and staying united under pressure.

“We want to win, and that’s what I’m thinking about. The most important thing is that the players stick to the plan and play as a team,” he added.

With qualification within reach, Addo remains grounded, keeping the spotlight on the players and their efforts as they look to make history with back-to-back World Cup appearances.

Speaking ahead of the encounter, Addo remained calm and focused, reinforcing that the team’s success is never about individual accolades but collective effort.

The possibility of guiding Ghana to back-to-back World Cup tournaments is within reach, but Addo insists that his mindset remains team-centric.

“I’m not thinking about that [back-to-back WC with Ghana] because first of all it’s never about me. I know that people want to polarise on me, that if we lose it’s me, if we win it’s me. It’s always us,” he said.

The Black Stars go into the match riding on confidence after a recent win in the qualifiers, and Addo is hoping his players can replicate that strong performance.

He highlighted the importance of focus and maintaining discipline in executing their tactical plan against a spirited Comoros side.

“We want to win this and that’s what I’m thinking about. We are looking for a good game plan and hope that like in the last match the players will fulfil the plan,” Addo stated.

Despite the high stakes, the coach is keeping expectations grounded, placing priority on composure and team cohesion.
